Omer Ben Shachar is a Los Angeles based writer-director. His short TREE #3 won a 2019 Student Academy Award, as well as top prizes at UrbanWorld, HollyShorts, Palm Springs and Comic-Con, among others. Omer’s films have screened at over 60 film festivals around the world including the Hamptons International Film Festival and the Bentonville Film Festival. Omer is a 2023 Project Involve Directing Fellow, Film Independent’s signature diversity program, where he was awarded the Cayton-Goldrich Family Foundation Fellowship. Previously, Omer was a participant of the 2020 Warner Bros. Directors’ Workshop, the 2020 ViacomCBS’s ViewFinder Directors Program and the BAFTA North America Newcomers Program. Omer is a graduate of the AFI Conservatory, and received the Richard P. Rogers Spirit of Excellence Award for Directing, presented by AFI Fest. Beyond his narrative work, Omer has directed music videos which have been featured on Rolling Stone, Billboard, Directors’ Library and Nowness; his video ‘Down Here’ for composer Claudio Olachea was a 2022 Vimeo Staff Pick and nominated for a Cannes Lions Young Directors Award. In 2020, he was named to Forbes Israel 30 Under 30 list.
